Geospatial data for infectious disease monitoring
Los Angeles, California, United States
In May 2020, the city of Los Angeles, California, opened its largest coronavirus testing site at Dodger Stadium. This drive-through testing location had the capacity to test up to 6,000 people daily, providing the residents of Los Angeles with easy, accessible and free testing.
Geospatial data provides a unique understanding based in both time and place to help build critical context for pandemic response. Time-series stacks of satellite imagery allows for analysis over time, enabling health organizations and local government agencies to make critical decisions for locations of testing and health facilities.
Maxar's analysts ran a car detection analysis to track how COVID-19 testing activity at Dodger Stadium changed over the course of the pandemic. The consistency of the images within the Analysis-Ready Data (ARD) stack allows Maxar's algorithms to produce accurate car counts for each image.
